Bramley CC Veteran Helps Set New Record!

Bramley Cricket Club | Centurian Nigel Alderman | 100 noSunday 31st July saw a keen Bramley XI assemble in the picturesque surroundings of Rotherwick CC to contest their latest fixture of this 2010 season.

Having won the toss (a truly rare event!) the Bramley skipper negotiated with his opposite number that Bramley would bat on what looked like “a belter of a pitch”.

The Rotherwick attack had early success by removing Bramley opener, Dan Hutton, for nought with the score on just 2. The recovery from that early loss was lead by Bramley skipper Andy Stead and Mike Burt. The skipper was the next wicket to fall with the score on 47 followed shortly after by Mike with the score on 69-3. What followed will no doubt pass into Bramley CC folklore.

A record partnership of 123 between Bramley veteran, Nigel Alderman and Matthew Stead took the Bramley score to the dizzy heights of 192-4 with more to come. Andrew Davies joined Alderman at the wicket and the pair added a further 73 to the Bramley score without further loss, a club record of 265-4.

In the midst of this “run fest” was one of Bramley CC’s founder members, Nigel Alderman, a man who, by his own admission, has never scored more than 63 in any form of cricket. Nigel rectified this situation in this game by completing a score, off the last ball of the innings, of exactly 100 not out. Well played Nigel, huge congratulations from all your Bramley colleagues.

Bramley Cricket Club – Match Report

Centurion Mike helps break Bramley’s 2010 Duck!

Bramley Cricket ClubA bright and sunny June day saw the Stratfield Turgis and Bramley XI’s assembled on the beautifully re-laid  square at Stratfield Turgis.

The Bramley team contained the usual mix of old hands, newish members but more optimistically a new face in the shape of Darren Condick.

The toss was won by the home side who elected to bowl on the aforementioned refurbished pitch.

After the early loss of opener Allan Douglas, Bramley skipper, Andy Stead and ever more regular “Bramleyite” Mike Burt, set about rebuilding the innings. A little matter of 117 runs later Stead was well caught on the long on boundary for 63. Burt continued in style despite a succession of Bramley wickets falling at the other end before he too succumbed for a magnificent 103, joining a very select band of Bramley centurions.

Bramley Cricket Club – National Village Knockout – Match Report

P1010044 (Medium)A game of two halves!

National Village Knockout Round 2,
Bramley v Hursley Park @ Clift Meadow,
Bramley, 9th May 20010.

A grey, cold day saw both teams of XI assembled, eventually, ready to contest this David (Bramley) versus Goliath (Hursley Park) fixture.
Bramley won the toss and chose to bowl on a damp, green but firm pitch (thanks for the roller time Nigel).

Stead Jr. & Hutton started downhill & uphill respectively both bowling tidy lines and with good pace.
Hutton opened the Bramley wicket taking when the Hursley opener slapped him to backward point where he was well caught by Andy Davies. Wickets then fell with pleasing regularity as a result of some excellent bowling and fielding. Bramley Skipper, Andy Stead, took two wickets, including a good diving, yes that does say diving, caught & bowled. Chris Taylor veered between hitting the stumps, well bowled Chris, and not being able to hit the cut strip, don’t worry its early season!
